Week 5 Preparing to Leave the MTC

Hey everybody!

I GET TO LEAVE THE MTC AND GO TO MEXICO ON MONDAY!!! I’m kind of excited/: This week has been such an amazing last week at the MTC and Ive had so many wonderful experiences here and I wouldn’t trade them for anything! It feels like i just got here a week ago!

This week we had the opportunity to host new missionaries coming into the MTC and it was almost difficult to hold back my laughter at the look of terror on there faces. And then I thought that that is probably what I looked like when i came in! And I’m sure that’s what I’ll look like when I get into the field on Monday! Today I should finish packing and then it’ll be official that I am leaving these hallowed grounds.

I would like to share an experience i had this week when my Dad invited me to read the story of Alma and Amulek in the book of Alma Chapter 8. Alma has just finished teaching the people of Gideon with great success and then he heads over to the City of Ammonihah to call the people there to repentance. When he does this however, the people mock, and spit on him, and cast him out of the city. Alma is walking along a path all discouraged that he has failed his purpose, and then he is visited by an Angel. The Angel tells Alma to rejoice for he has done what the Lord has required of him. The Angel then tells Alma to return to the city of Ammonihah and that he will meet a man that will feed him and give him rest. Alma goes on his way, meanwhile a man named Amulek is visited by an angel and the Angel tells him to prepare to receive a man of God and to feed him and give him rest. Long story short, Alma meets Amulek and is fed and given rest by him. They then go back to the city of Ammonihah and convert many unto the fold of the Gospel. The moral of the story is that this is not our work to be done, it’s the Lord’s. Period. No ifs, ands, or buts. We can only do our best to do the Lord’s will and He will prepare a way for us to accomplish the thing that he hath commanded us.

Sometimes while I’ve been here I have felt that our investigators weren’t progressing because I wasn’t an effective teacher. I couldn’t be more wrong. The Lord will provide ways for His children to receive His gospel in His time…not ours.   These thoughts I leave with you in the name of Our Savior and Redeemer, My Elder Brother, even Jesus Christ, Amen.
